Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botulinum toxin (Type A, also known as Botox Cosmetic) is a natural, purified protein that’s commonly used to help erase fine lines and reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles.

As a neurotoxin, Botox leaves your skin looking naturally smooth by blocking the nerve signals that cause your facial muscles to contract.

Dr. Seidenberg injects the protein in small doses at specific points in your facial anatomy to relax underlying facial muscles and help decrease the appearance of wrinkles and creases. Botox Cosmetic can also be used to help correct facial asymmetry.

What areas of the face can Botox address?

As one of the most effective cosmetic tools for temporary wrinkle reduction, Botox Cosmetic is the preferred treatment for dynamic wrinkles, or the deeper lines that are caused by daily facial muscle patterns and normal facial expressions. These wrinkles include:

  • Angry 11s, or the vertical furrows between your eyebrows
  • Worry lines, or the horizontal furrows in your forehead
  • Crow’s feet, or the tiny laugh lines at the corners of your eyes

Although Botox can also have a noticeable effect on static wrinkles, or the finer lines caused by things like sun damage, genetics, or smoking, static wrinkles tend to be even more responsive to laser skin resurfacing treatments.

What is the Botox procedure like?

Before your Botox session, you’ll have an initial consultation with Dr. Seidenberg so he can make sure you’re a suitable candidate for the treatment. This is also when you’ll discuss your cosmetic goals.

The procedure itself is relatively quick, usually taking no longer than 10 minutes to complete. Most patients get the results they want by having several small injections throughout the treatment area.

Because Botox is administered through very tiny needles, the injections themselves are virtually painless. Any minor swelling or redness you may experience afterward is usually mild and short-lived.

What kind of results can I expect?

Botox Cosmetic ranks as one of the most frequently performed aesthetic treatments because it delivers immediate results: Most patients start seeing visibly smoother skin within 24-48 hours.

Botox also carries few risks and potential side effects. Because it requires little to no downtime, you can resume to your normal activities immediately after your session.

Though Botox results aren’t permanent, they do typically last as long as six months. If you want to maintain your new, younger-looking skin for longer, all you have to do is make an appointment for a Botox boost.
